As one of his first moves shortly after being inaugurated as the 45th president of these United States, Donald Trump declared his inauguration day a holiday. Seriously. He singed an executive order forwarding the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which could revoke health care coverage for nearly 20 million people, and then signs a proclamation designating Jan. 20, 2017 a “National Day of Patriotic Devotion.”

Only Congress can create recurring national holidays, but the president is within his powers to designate certain days as he chooses. But this president chose to make his first day in office a holiday for no other reason than because it serves his bloated ego.
It’s unclear if Congress will make this an annual holiday, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
