Felony riot charges for 200 in inauguration protest

More than 200 people arrested in inauguration day protests in Washington D. C. were charged with felony riot — a charge that carries a maximum 10 year prison sentence, according to AlterNet.

The Guardian reports that at least two reporters on assignment covering the demonstration — Evan Engel of Vocativ and Alex Rubinstein of RT America — were among those arrested.

The number of those arrested is not known. Estimates are between 217 and 230 people.

Cameras, phones and other personal effects were seized by the cops for evidence.

“These charges are absolutely horrifying,” Samantha Miller, an organizer with the Disrupt J20 Collective, said. “They are just trying to stop any resistance to the Trump administration.”
